Sofia Mayor Vassil Terziev has officially declared the capital as Bulgaria’s best-prepared city to host the Eurovision Song Contest in 2027. This announcement follows Bulgaria’s historic victory at the Eurovision Song Contest 2026 with Dara and her song ‘Bangaranga’. Terziev expressed his immense happiness regarding Dara’s triumph during an interview on Nova Television on Sunday.
Following Bulgaria’s incredible win at the 70th Eurovision Song Contest in Vienna, Austria, Sofia is already stepping forward as a strong contender to host the prestigious event in 2027. Mayor Vassil Terziev has confidently stated that the capital possesses all the necessary attributes to stage the international music spectacle.
Terziev highlighted Sofia’s readiness, pointing to its robust infrastructure, excellent international connections, and ample accommodation facilities as key advantages. The city’s primary candidate venue is Arena Sofia (formerly Arena Armeec), a multi-purpose indoor arena with a concert capacity of up to 17,906 people. This venue previously hosted the Junior Eurovision Song Contest in 2015, demonstrating its capability to manage large-scale events.
The European Broadcasting Union (EBU) outlines specific requirements for host cities, including a venue available for approximately eight weeks with a minimum capacity of 10,000 attendees, coupled with strong logistical and infrastructural support. Sofia’s bid aims to meet these criteria comprehensively, positioning itself as the frontrunner among Bulgarian cities.
While Sofia appears to be a strong candidate, other Bulgarian cities have also expressed interest in hosting. Burgas, with its Arena Burgas (capacity up to 15,000), and Plovdiv have also put their names forward. However, Sofia’s experience and existing infrastructure place it in a prime position to welcome Europe to Bulgaria for Eurovision 2027.
We should take into account the Sofia is Bulgaria’s capital with an international airport with numerous international flight connections, a massive hotel room capacity and has experience in hosting large scale events.
