RTVE, the Spanish national broadcaster has released an official statement regarding Israel’s participation at the forthcoming Eurovision Song Contest 2025 in Basel, Switzerland.

In the wake of the ongoing conflict in Gaza and Israel, the Spanish national broadcaster’s president has sent an official letter to the EBU’s President, Noel Curran,  in order to request a debate on the Israeli public broadcaster’s participation at the upcoming Eurovision Song Contest 2025 in Basel.

RTVE’s official press release reads:

In accordance with the recommendations of the Administrative Council, the President of the  RTVE Corporation has addressed a letter to the Director General of the EBU, Noel Curran, to request the opening of a debate within the organization on the participation of the Israeli Public Television (KAN) at the forthcoming Eurovision Song Contest , scheduled to be held in Basel next May.

In this letter, RTVE, conveys its commitment to the contest and the EBU, but also recognizes the concerns raised by various civil society groups in Spain regarding the situation in Gaza and the participation of the Israeli public television KAN in the contest.

RTVE considers that it is appropriate that the EBU recognizes the existence of this debate and facilitates a space of reflection among the EBU member broadcasters on the participation of the Israeli public television KAN.
