Will the Netherlands and AVROTROS compete at the forthcoming Eurovision Song Contest 2025 in Basel?

After the unfortunate incidents that afflicted the 2024 Eurovision and Joost Klein’s disqualification in Malmo following an alleged incident with a camerawoman, the Eurovision fandom are eagerly awaiting AVROTROS’ decision on the Netherlands’ Eurovision 2025 participation.

There has been much speculation both in the Dutch and international media regarding the Netherlands’s ESC 2025 participation off late. The EBU has given AVROTROS an extension for confirming its participation at Eurovision 2025 until 1 November 2024.

Currently the EBU and AVROTROS are holding constructive talks regarding the issues which afflicted the Dutch delegation in Malmo and a pontential ESC 2025 participation.

AVROTROS’ Director General General Taco Zimmerman has stated in an interview to Speekbuis.nl  that there has been no decision made yet on the potential Dutch ESC 2025 participation.

AVROTROS is seriously considering participating at the forthcoming Eurovision Song Contest.

Taco Zimmerman states:

We have to notify the EBU before November 1st whether we will participate.. You will hear about that soon, but we would not have asked for a postponement if it was not a serious consideration.

It is a delicate matter. We are in talks with the EBU about the fact that things have to change there. We want certainties first, before we decide to participate again.

So far 33 countries have confirmed their participation at Eurovision 2025, the official list of the ESC 2025 competing countries will be published by the EBU by the end of the year.
