The Finnish public broadcaster YLE received 325 entries for Euroviisut 2004, the Finnish national selection for the upcoming year. Last year, YLE received 400 songs. 12 songs will be selected for the national final, plus 5 as back-up.

The past years, Finland was not very successfull at the Eurovision Song Contest. In 2002, Finland ended up 20th with the song Addicted to you, which received a total of 24 points.

Finland will use the same selection format as in 2002. In the first round, regional juries will select six songs out of 12 to advance to the second round. When the results of the regional juries are known, the television viewers can vote by televoting and SMS. The results of previous votes will have no weight, and thus are an advice to the televoters. The song which receives the highest number of votes from the television audience will represent Finland at the Eurovision Song Contest 2004 in Istanbul.

YLE will announce the 12 participating songs at 21st November. The national final will take place at 24th January in Tampere.
