NPO, the Dutch national broadcaster, and the EBU have revealed the 2020 Eurovision Song Contest slogan.

The slogan for the 2020 Eurovision Song Contest will be: Open up!

Sietse Bakker (Executive Producer ESC 2020) says:

The slogan ‘Open Up’ is intentionally incomplete: Open up to each other. Open up to music. Open up to Rotterdam. Open up to… whatever you choose! Feel the freedom to complete the slogan in your own way. That way we get to know each other better.

We have looked for a theme and slogan that reflect what the Netherlands stands for and which the Dutch can identify with; a country with an open mind to the world, where we speak our mind, with respect for each other. We also found it important to choose a theme that reflects the spirit of our times. People are concerned about increasing polarization and freedom isn’t as self-evident for everyone as it should be.

With the slogan ‘Open Up’, we warmly invite people to open up to others, to different opinions, each other’s stories and of course to each other’s music.

Mr. Jon Ola Sand (ESC Executive Supervisor on behalf of EBU) says:

Open Up is the perfect slogan for the Eurovision Song Contest as it celebrates its 65th edition. In 1956, only 7 countries could watch the competition and since then we have opened up to the whole of Europe, to Australia and now, via streaming, to the whole world. The values of the Eurovision Song Contest are universality and inclusivity, and our proud tradition of celebrating diversity through music. Now we can add a new one – that of openness.

The 2020 Eurovision slogan has been inspired by the openness of the Eurovision Song Contest which was born just 10 years after the Second World War in order to unite the European nations.  The contest has opened its doors to many news countries, music, technology throughout its history. Today 40 plus countries partake in the competition.

The 65th Eurovision edition will be taking place in Rotterdam next year, coinciding with the 75th anniversary of the liberation of the Netherlands and the 80th anniversary of the bombing of the city.

The 2020 ESC theme art is under development currently and will be unveiled in due course.

The 2020 Eurovision theme art and slogan will be implemented and endorsed throughout Rotterdam and the Netherlands in order to promote the contest. The theme art and graphics will be very much part of the branding, city dressing and live  shows!

The 2020 Eurovision Song Contest is scheduled to be held on 12, 14 and 16 May at the Rotterdam Ahoy in Rotterdam, the Netherlands.
