Italy is back at the Eurovision Song Contest after an absence of 13 years. Raphael Gualazzi winner of the San Remo 2011 Song Contest Newcomers Competition has the honour of flying the Italian flag in Oslo. Italy is one of the automatically qualified five countries in the final of the Eurovision Song Contest 2011. This year their national broadcaster (RAI) decided to come back to the Eurovision family as they left the competition in 1997 when Jalisse's Fiumi di parole scored a respectable 4th placing in Ireland.
Raphael Gualazzi was selected by a special jury consisting in Gianni Morandi, Mauro Mazza, Massimo Liofredi, Mark Simeon, Maurizio Zoccarato and George Giuffra. The singer will represent Italy at this year's Eurovision Song Contest withFollia d'amore (Madness of love)a jazz song written by himself.
