Spanish broadcasting corporation RTVE has announced today that established artists wishing to take part in the 2011 selection for the Eurovision Song Contest would automatically qualify for the country's national final. Applications deadline has been set on Thursday, January 27th.
So far, 24 hopefuls are in the race to represent Spain in May in Düsseldorf. RTVE announced in the very beginning of the selection process that they reserved the right to invite well-known artists to join the competition. In a statement made public today, the broadcaster says that should they want to participate, they have until next Thursday at 12:00 CET to fulfill their application.
These acts would not have to compete against the other participants in the semifinals – RTVE would grant them a place in the final automatically.
