LIVE
The show has started. The members of the jury are being presented. Now, the participants are being introduced.
1. Armiya & Vera Varlamova – Allo, allo
The group are dressed in French cabaret-style outfits. The performance is steamy. The girls don't possess high vocal skills and maybe they need to cope with that by adding some extra elements. Fresh song, but limited quality. The final part of the song is the strongest part of the performance.
2. El Kravchuk – Moya nadezhda
El Kravchuk is now on stage performing his ballad Moya nadezhda. A song with a pop-rock touch. El Kravchuk's vocals suit well this melancholic composition, and the sober performance with no gimmicks adds up to the performance. Anyway, this ballad is nothing we've not seen and heard before, and could not shine should it be selected to represent Ukraine.
3. Jamala – Smile
Jamala is one of the strongest acts in this semifinal and one of the favourite candidates to represent Ukraine in Düsseldorf. Smile, as its name suggests, is a happy song. Both the musical and the visual elements remind of the decade of the 1950s, with American-style outfits. Jamala's vocals are perfect and always on tune. She is delivering the best performance so far. This song even includes a Tirolese verse, rhythms of salsa… Undoubtedly, a very fresh and original entry.
4. Eduard Romanyuta –Berega
Eduard is staging a pop-rock performance, with a remarkable commercial profile. There are lots of songs similar ro Eduard's, which is not a good sign – after all eight performances, the public mught not remember Berega. Correct vocals.
5. Mila Nitich – Good bye
Yet another ballad in today's Eurovision show in Ukraine. Mila's vocals are strong and powerful, suiting this musical style properly. Anyway, the song could be seen as dated, 1990s style, clearly reminding of Céline Dion's songs in that decade. The overall impresion is good. Let's see if the jurors allow her to qualify for the final.
6. Pavlo Tabakov – Shake your body
Shake your body, as its name indicates, is a pop-song that is especially made for the people to dance to it. Vocals' quality is medium, while the song's is quite low, too low to represent a country in the Eurovision Song Contest. Just like in the first performance, Pavlo's song is so weak itself that needs female backing dancers to make it more appealing.
7. Dasha Medova – Infinity
Dasha is singing her ballad Infinity now, delivering an emotional performance. It is worth to mention that her vocals are very good. Accordingly to the type of song, the staging is quite simple and sober. The song is charming, although not very original, with a 90s flavour once again. Good impression overall, but this is a song that might be easily forgettable in Eurovision.
This concludes today's performances. The jury will announce the results shortly.
EDUARD ROMANYUTA, DASHA MEDOVA, ARMIYA & VERA VARLAMOVA, JAMALA AND EL KRAVCHUK QUALIFY FOR THE FINAL.
