A total of 147 candidates have applied to become the 2011 Austrian representative in Düsseldorf. A jury will now assess all the entries, to be narrowed down to 30. As of January 3rd, an online voting will be opened and the 5 candidates with higher scores will qualify for the final to be held on February 25th.

Among the 147 hopefuls, there are both unknown and familiar faces. Some of them are former Eurovision representatives such as Waterloo, Robinson (1976), Petra Frey (1994), Alf Poier (2003) and Tie-Break member Di Bernardo (2004).

Other known names in the race to represent Austria in Düsseldorf are Oliver Wimmer (winner of the 4th season of Starmania), Bluatschink (Austrian preliminary round for Eurovision 2002), band Alkbottle and Nadine Beiler (winner of the 3rd season of Starmania), to name a few.

The winner of the Austrian selection will be decided via televoting only.
