The Netherlands: Waylon films his Eurovision postcard in Lisbon

The 2018 Dutch Eurovision representative Waylon flew to Lisbon in order to film his Eurovision postcard.

The delegations and participants of the 43 participating countries at the 2018 Eurovision Song Contest will be travelling to Portugal prior to the contest in order to film their respective presentation postcards. Each artist will be portrayed in an activity or a challenge.

The postcards will showcase the beauty of Portugal and will portray the Eurovision artists enjoying the sights and sounds of the host country.

The presentation postcards serve as a massive platform for the host country to promote its tourism and showcase itself on a global scale as millions of viewers tune in to watch Europe’s favorite television show. The Eurovision Song Contest reaches households beyond Europe, from Australia to Argentina, from China to New Zealand, from USA to India etc.

The Dutch postcard

The 2018 Dutch Eurovision hopeful flew to Portugal in order to film his Eurovision postcard. Waylon visited the majestic Portuguese capital and got a chance to check out some of the iconic parts of Lisbon during his trip.

The Dutch postcard has been filmed in Lisbon’s Castelo de São Jorge and will feature Waylon partaking in making the famous Portuguese custard pies Pasteis de Nata.

Waylon is no new face when it comes to the Eurovision Song Contest as he represented The Netherlands at the 2014 Eurovision Song  Contest in duet with Ilse DeLange with Calm after the storm, achieving an honorable 2nd place in Copenhagen.

The multi talented Dutch artist was selected via an internal selection to defend the Dutch colours at the 2018 Eurovision Song Contest in Lisbon. He will be flying the Dutch flag at the 2018 Eurovision with his entry Outlaw in ‘Em.

The Netherlands in Eurovision

The Netherlands has won the Eurovision Song Contest 4 times and is one of the founding members of the competition, having debuted in 1956.

The Dutch have only made it to the Top 5 of the scoreboard 10 times in their 61 year old history in the contest including 4 victories (1957, 1959, 1969 and 1975), one 2nd place (2014), one third place (1974), two 4th places (1972 and 1998) and two 5th places (1980 and 1987).

The country has hosted the competition 4 times; Hilversum (1958) Amsterdam (1970), The Hague (1976 and 1980).

The Netherlands is set to perform in the Second Semi-final of the 2018 Eurovision Song Contest on 10 May in Lisbon.
