The Belgian broadcaster RTBF which will be responsible for the next participation for the country in the Eurovision Song Contest 2011 gave its guarantees that Belgium will abide with the European Broadcasting Union regulations after plans for their selection process appeared to contradict the EBU rule that songs cannot be performed or played publicly prior to 1st October 2010.

RTBF is working on a project in collaboration with Akamusic which is inviting singers to present their demos on a special designed website between 25th May and 30th September 2010. Only those songs that receive €20,000 will make it to the second round of the selection process.

The issue of this concept is that the EBU states that a song will be disqualified if the music or the lyrics are commercially released and/or publicly performed, in full or partly before 1st October. EBU supervisor Svante Stockselius contacted RTBF in order to abide with the regulations and he was assured that everything will go ahead according to the rules of the Eurovision Song Contest.

The TV station will go through its concept for the next selection and will announce the adjusted details regarding the Belgian selection for the Eurovision Song Contest of next year.
