All songs for the Eurovision Song Contest 2010 have been selected. During the weeks between the national final season and the actual Eurovision Song Contest, we will introduce all 39 entries in random order. We are halfway through and part twenty of the series is dedicated to the Moldovan entry.

Basic information

Performers: Sunstroke Project & Olia Tira
Song: Run away
Language: English
Music: Anton Ragoza, Sergey Stepanov
Lyrics: Alina Galetskaya
Draw: 1st in the first semi final

The song

Run away is an up-tempo dance pop song. Through the lyrics of the break-up song, the singer tells her former lover to run away and never come back. Actually, it seems she is telling herself that she should move on and forget that person:

I don't believe anymore your shallow heart
I know that it's you who chose to play this trick
O'll never forgive you, not for anything!
And now you are left with nothing

Oh, forget, let me breathe, let me live!
Just run away from my mind
Oh, forgive, I don't need
I won't breathe!

The performers

Sunstroke Project consists of Sergey Stepanov, Sergei Yalovitsky and Anton Ragoza. The band was formed in 2008 and in 2009, they competed in the Moldovan national final for the Eurovision Song Contest. With their song No crime, they finished third in the final behind Nelly Ciobanu and Alexa. Their musical style is described as a "symbiosis of a violin, saxophone and live vocals, making up a fashionable chaos of music". Sunstroke Project haven given concerts both inside and outside Moldova.

Olia Tira was born in Germany but her family moved back to Moldova when she was still a child. She has tried to represent Moldova in the Eurovision Song Contest on various previous occasions. In 2007, she finished third in the internal national selection with her song Your place or mine. The year after, she entered the televised national final in finished second with Always will be. Last year, she returned and finished fourth this time, one place behind Sunstroke Project, with Unicul meu. Olia Tira has released one album so far and she is also known as a TV presenter in her home country.

Olia Tira and Sunstroke Project joined forces for the Moldova national final for the Eurovision Song Contest 2010. With their song Run away they could win the selection and will therefore be the country's sixth representatives in the competition in Oslo.

The songwriters

The Moldovan entry was written by band members Anton Ragoza and Sergey Stepanov (music) along with Alina Galetskaya (lyrics).

The national selection

The Moldovan national final was held under the title O melodie pentru Europa. For the first time, there were two semi finals before the final including 15 participants each. A total of 14 acts qualified for the final, where the winner was chosen by televoting and a jury. Both agreed in sending Olia Tira & Sunstroke Project to Oslo.

Moldova in the Eurovision Song Contest

Moldova entered the Eurovision Song Contest in 2005 and immediately finished second in the semi final and sixth in the final, which is still the country's best result. Another top ten placing followed in 2007, while in 2008 the country missed the final for the first and only time.

Îi dorim Moldovei Èi lui Sunstroke Project & Olia Tira mult noroc Åi un rezultat bun in Oslo!
