National final season 2010: What happened last week?

Counting from the first Maltese semi final on 9th December, the eleventh week of the national final season for the Eurovision Song Contest 2010 has passed. Ten more shows were held in seven different countries including three national finals.

Germany

The German performer selection Unser Star für Oslo continued on Tuesday with the first elimination round, where the ten acts that qualified through the heats met. At the end of the televoting, it was decided that Meri Voskanian and Maria-Lisa Straßburg are eliminated from the competition. Therefore, eight acts are still in the running.

FYR Macedonia

The FYR Macedonian national selection Skopje Fest 2010 was held on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Eight acts out of 14 qualified from both semi finals and therefore 16 acts were competing in the grand final on Saturday. At the end of the voting, it was decided that Gjoko Taneski will represent the ountry n Oslo with the song Jas ja imam silata. The singer had previously finished fourth in the first semi final.

Slovenia

The semi final of EMA 2010 was held on Saturday. 14 acts competed and seven of them were chosen to compete in the grand final the day after. 14 acts competed in the final, the seven semi final qualifiers and the seven acts that were chosen to directly compete in the final. At the end of the voting, Roka Žlindre & Kalamari won by a landslide getting about 4.5 times more votes than the runner-up. Their song is called Narodnozabavni rock and it was written by Marino Legovi� and Leon Oblak.

Sweden

The third semi final of Sweden's Melodifestival was held on Saturday. Another eight acts competed and it was decided that Timoteij will compete in the final with Kom as will Darin with You're out of my life. Alcazar and Crucified Barbara will get another chance in Andra chansen.

Lithuania

The second of three semi finals of the Lithuanian national selection was held on Saturday. Eleven acts competed and it was decided that the following three acts will compete in the final: Donatas Montvydas with Running fast, AGAMAS with Field of kings and Ruslanas Kirilkinas with I love a boy who's in love with a fairytale.

Malta

After six semi finals, the Maltese national final was held on Saturday. At the end of the long Malta Eurosong 2010 show, it was decided that Thea Garrett will fly to Moscow with her song My dream written by Jason Paul Cassar and Sunny Aquilina, the team behind the 1998 Maltese entry The one that I love.

Slovakia

The second and last semi final of Eurosong 2010 was held on Sunday. Twelve acts competed and six of them were chosen to compete in the national final: Mista with Emotions, TomášBezdeda with Na strechách domov, Aya with Do neba volám, SoÅ�a with Skús ma viesÅ¥, Martina Schindlerová with Môžeš ísÅ¥ and Free Voices with Z osnov.

The 2010 esctoday.com National Final Awards will be held between April and May, which means between the national final season and the Eurovision Song Contest. We will repeat the same format with two rounds for nominations which was used this year – you can read how it works here. However, this time the individual polls for each country will always be held right after the national final, when the entries are still fresh.
