Charlo Bonnici, leader of the Maltese delegation last year and head of Maltasong, ensures that Malta has not taken part in the votes exchange as the Norwegian newspaper Dagbladet wrote.

The Maltese newspaper The Malta Independant asked Mr. Bonnici to comment on this claim: These are all unfounded allegations and I have no more comments to add. We worked very hard to achieve second place and we deserved that result. We visited nine countries to promote the song and the singer. We certainly did not need vote swapping. We based all our efforts on promotion, he said. Furthermore, Bonnici said that during the Eurovision 2003 week, he will be asking EBU to confirm or deny these claims.
