LIVE

The show is starting.

Sabine Heinrich and Matthias Opdenhövel welcome the audience in the sold-out studio. Both explain the format of Unser Star für Oslo.

The jury is now introduced. Head judge Stefan Raab enters the stage first. He considers the show a national task. The two guest judges tonight are singer and actress Yvonne Catterfeld and singer and former actor Marius Müller-Westernhagen, who are both introduced in short videos.

Yvonne Catterfeld says that she competed in one of the first German casting programmes back in 2000 and she says that she herself would be too nervous to compete tonight. Marius Müller-Westernhagen says he is not a fan of talent searches in general but he says he appreciates that Stefan Raab wants to take the format to a higher lever. He also says that tonight he will especially look for quality and originality.

The first singer will perform now.

1. Benjamin Peters

Benjamin Peters is a music teacher. He performs Bodies, originally by Robbie Williams.

The first performer delivers a very confindent performance of the recent hit song by Robbie Williams. The vocal performance is flawless an very professional. The whole appearance might even be a bit too "cool" for a newcomer but generally this is a very strong opening performance.

Stefan Raab highlights the perfect intonation and he enjoys the mixture of "Elvis and David Bowie".

Yvonne Catterfeld is happy that the performance was better than during the rehearsals.

Marius Müller-Westernhagen says that the performance was more relaxed than during the rehearsals.

2. Kerstin Freking

Kerstin Freking studies German. She performs My immortal by Evanescence.

The vocal performance starts off very strongly and she holds it as the song proceeds. Although she delivers a very emotional performance, the acoustic version of she song she performed with her guitar during the original audition still suited her a little bit better.

Yvonne Catterfeld says that she enjoys the different shades of Kerstin's voice although it sounded a little too "pushed" at some points.

Marius Müller-Westernhagen enjoyed her vocal performance and the fact that she did not loose her nerves being in a competition.

Stefan Raab highlights that the song is very hard to sing and he says that she did a very good job.

Commercial break now.

3. Johannes Böhm

Johannes Böhn is studying media design. He performs Crazy by Seal.

Johannes seems more nervous than the previous two contestants and his vocal performance is rather flat and it is overshadowed by the live band. The style of the songs might also not be the best choice for him. The stage performance is kept simple and it kinda seems to lack something.

Marius Müller-Westernhagen says that he thinks Johannes has a nice voice but he had the impression that the performer did not feel comfortable on stage.

Stefan Raab says that the singer has a nice timbre but that he could not always show that.

Yvonne Catterfeld shares the opinion of Marius Müller-Westernhagen and that the song could not show the special features of his voice.

4. Daria Sharaf

Daria Sharaf is an upcoming musician. She performs At last by Etta James.

Daria performs a classic and the song seems to suit her perfectly as it shows the special features of her warm and emotional voice. She is in harmony with the band throughout the performance and despite a very simple stage performance she seems to capture the attention of the audience.

Marius Müller-Westernhagen says it was not a good idea to choose such a "black" song and that it sounded like a white person trying to sing a "black" song.

Stefan Raab says that the singer has her vibrato well under control but that she was holding back a little and that he missed the actual highlight in the performance.

Yvonne Catterfeld says the singer chose a good song and that she enjoyed the performance but she still missed a peak in the performance.

5. Cyril Krueger

Cyril Crueger studies sports. He performs Hotel California by the Eagles.

Cyril Krueger perform with his guitar on stage and he delivers a slightly more modern version of the Eagles classic. The vocal performance is strong throughout the entire performance. Although the style might be a bit too US-American, he is among the stronger performers so far. The audience wants an encore.

Yvonne Catterfeld says that she enjoyed the performance and she also had the feeling that the singer himself enjoyed the performance as well.

Stefan Raab says that he enjoyed the sound of his voice.

Marius Müller-Westernhagen agrees with Yvonne Catterfeld and he thinks it was a very good performance.

Commercial break now.

6. Michael Kraus

Michael Kraus is an upcoming gardener. He performs Loving you by Paulo Nottini.

Another strong vocal performance. The singer is in harmony with the live band and he is very passionate. This is aunique effort, which is popular with the audience but might not quite be Eurovision material.

Marius Müller-Westernhagen puts it in a nutshell: "You rock".

Yvonne Catterfeld likes that he is unique.

Stefan Raan says he was one of the most nervous acts during the rehearsals. He says that although the vocals are not technically perfect but that he still enjoyed them.

7. Meri Voskanian

Meri Voskanian is a singer. She performs Release me by Agnes.

Meri Voskanian competed in the Armenian national selection for the Eurovision Song Contest 2007 with two songs. She had already taken part in German pop idol in 2006. Tonight, she performs a unique version of the Agnes hit song as it features some elements from soul music and rock music. Despite some shaky notes, the vocal performance is very interesting and Meri is a passionate and confident performer.

Stefan Raab says that she has a very good vocal technique. He still says that she was partly off-key but he highlights her professional performance.

Yvonne Catterfeld says that her vocal performance included some Beyoncé-like notes and that she is a great singer.

Marius Müller-Westernhagen says that she had the largest vocal range tonight so far. He says that she has much potential and that she should keep working on it.

Commercial break now.

8. Katrin Walter

Katrin Walter is a shop assistant. She performs Nobody knows by Pink.

Katrin's voice sounds crystal clear when she performs this sad pop/rock ballad, especially in the verses. The vical performance is almost flawless and she makes the song her own. An issue might be that her facial expressions look a bt uninvolved, especially for such an emotioanl song.

Yvonne Catterfeld says that the performance was touching. She notes that she might have been a bit too concetrated.

Marius Müller-Westernhagen says that she sings the song very well but he mentions that it might have been a bit too smooth.

Stefan Raab says that it was a very good vocal performance and that he could not find any faults but he also misses some "edges".

9. Sebastian Schwarzbach

Sebastian Schwarzbach is a musician. He performs Home by Michael Bublé.

Sebastian delivers a confident and very laid-back performance of Home. The vocals are not off-key, but he mumbles a lot, which is obviously part of the performance. A rather artistic performance in a style that might be overlooked in the Eurovision Song Contest.

Marius Müller-Westernhagen says that the singer has a good timing but he didn't like all of the higher notes.

Stefan Raab says that it is obvious that the singer is a talented musician and a good guitarist.

Yvonne Catterfeld enjoyed the performance but she preferred the performance during the original casting.

10. Lena Meyer-Landrut

Lena Meyer-Landrut is still going to school. She performs My same by Adele.

At the age of 18, she is the youngest performer tonight. She delivers one of the most interesting performances and she manages to show many different shades of her voice. She lives the song and enjoys her performance. The audience is very enthusiastic.

Stefan Raab says the performance was amazing, especially because it was unique and original.

Yvonne Catterfeld says she enjoyed the performance a lot and that she is going to buy Lena's first record.

Marius Müller-Westernhagen likes that the singer was just being herself and not pretending to be someone else. He also says the the people are going to love her.

The jury tells their favourites now.

Yovnne Cattefeld: Best – Lena, Worst – Johannes

Marius Müller-Westernhagen: Best – Lena, Worst – Daliah and Johannes

Stefan Raab: Best – Lena, Worst: Daliah and Johannes
