Greece: Despina Ricci withdraws from Greek final

Despina Ricci, the Greek French artist who was one of ERT's choices for the country's final, announced today that she is withdrawing her participation as she does not have enough time to present her song the way she wants to.

Despina Ricci spoke today to Yannis Poulopoulos, one of Greece's top Eurovision reporters during the daily talk show Fotis Maria Live. She explained that she has to withdraw her bid because she will be unable to present her song exactly the way she wants to in the time frame given by the Greek broadcaster given the fact that she is also busy working on her new album to be released in France later this year.

It now remains to be seen whether the Greek broascaster will replace Despina in the final with another artist or if we will see a nine act lineup in the Greek final which will take place on 10th March in Athens.

Thanks to Johnny Logan and Hold me now I fell in love with the Eurovision Song Contest, a love that's been going strong ever since with undiminished passion. My first memories date back to 1977 and the lyrics of Rock bottom, Dschinghis Khan and A ba ni bi are still engraved in my brain.

I joined esctoday.com in 2006 as a junior editor after being invited by Barry Viniker, I soon became Senior Editor and during the 2007 contest in Helsinki I was appointed Head of Communications. Today I hold the post of Head of Human Resources and I am proud to be working with the best editorial team in the world.
