The winner
This is the second esctoday.com award for France both this year and overall. Patricia Kaas has earlier won the award for Best female performance. It is the first time that this award is given out as in 2007 and 2008, there was only one award for Lyricist of the year. The two awards went to Saša Miloševic Mare (Serbia) in 2007 and Maria Haukaas Storeng (Norway) in 2008.
The pseudonym Anse Lazio is based on the name of a beach on the Seychellois island Praslin. Et s'il fallait le faire was the only song on Patricia Kaas' album Kabaret that he has worked on but he had previously composed the music to the song N'oublie pas, which was the closing track on Australian singer Tina Arena's French language studio album 7 vies.
Through the lyrics of Et s'il fallait faire (meaning And if it had to be done), the singer tells someone that she would do everything so that she is still loved herself. The tone seems to be passionate but can also be interpreted as desperate:
Et s'il fallait le faire … Je veux bien tout donner |
And if it had to be done … I do want to give everything |
