The 48th edition of the Albanian Festivali i Këngës will take place over 4 shows, all of them live, starting on the 24th of December and finishing on the 27th. A total of 38 songs will participate in the country's national selection for Eurovision, which will be divided into 2 groups.

The event will be held at the Pallasi i Congreseve, in Tirana and will last for no less than 4 evenings, beginning on Christmas Eve and finishing on the 27th of December 2009.

A grandtotal of 78 songs were submitted to the Albanian broadcaster RTSH in order to win a spot in the national contest, being shortlisted tothe 38 that will be performed on stage. They have been split in two groups of 19 songs each. The groups have been created according to the experience of the singers: one will be made up by experienced singers (the "big" group) and the other will be called the "young" group.
