Eurovision 2017: More than 1,500 volunteers have applied so far

NTU, the national Ukrainian broadcaster has revealed today that it has so far received ore than 1,500 applications for the 2017 Eurovision Song Contest Volunteers Recruitment selection, in just one day.

NTU launched the search for the 2017 Eurovision volunteers yesterday 19 December.  Just in one day the organizers have received more than 1,500 submissions. There seems to be a very high interest in Ukraine specially among the younger population to become a volunteer at the forthcoming 2017 Eurovision Song Contest.

Most of the applications came from 18 year old students, whilst the oldest person to apply was a 64 year old British designer.  The highest amount of applications has so far come in from Ukraine (the host country), whilst citizens from Israel, USA, Spain, Portugal, Austria, Poland and Latvia have also applied.

Most of the applicants are skilled in 3 or more languages. The applicants must have a good knowledge of English. Some of the candidates can speak Chinese, Hindi and Arabic.

The 2017 Eurovision Song Contest Executive Producer Ms. Victoria Romanova says:

We are quite impressed with the high amount of applications on the first day of the volunteers selection. It is also nice that to see that not only Ukrainian citizens, but many people from other countries want to to volunteer. It  indicates the high trust the international community has in us and the importance of the competition.

The 2017 Eurovision volunnteers will be working with the foreign delegations, artists, press and Eurovision guests and visitors during the 2 ESC weeks span. Volunteers will be awarded  certificates acknowledging their respective training and work during the 2017 ESC.

The selection of volunteers will be consisting of at least 2-3  stages:

  • The first stage will run from 19 December 2016- 17 February 2017. During this period applicants can submit their applications to NTU in order to become a volunteerr at the 2017 Eurovision Song Contest. All the applications will be reviewed and examined.
  • The second stage will consist of the selection interview and and an English proficiency test. 
  •  Hereafter the qualified volunteers will be invited to a special training: where they will be taught to provide first aid and communicate with guests during the Eurovision period. They will be coached in building up team spirit and showcasing their best during Eurovision.

The 2017 Eurovision Song Contest is scheduled to be held 9, 11 and 13 May at the IEC in Kyiv. Ukraine.
