Australia: The Veronicas favourite for Eurovision 2017?

With Australia’s participation in the 2017 Eurovision Song Contest confirmed this week, the rumour mill is spinning fast with possible representatives for the nation. Could it be third time lucky for the Aussies with electropop-duo The Veronicas?

They’re back! Australia will once again be returning to the Eurovision Song Contest for a third time running following the country’s recent success in the competition, going on to almost win the 2016 contest with Dami Im and her song Sound of silence.

With hopes on the Australian nation to gain a surprise victory in the competition, who are the acts being mentioned in the rumour mill so far and who has the potential that jaw-dropping performance to the Eurovision stage for a third year in a row?

Potential acts for Eurovision 2017?

Featuring alongside frequently mentioned names such as international star Kylie Minogue and her sister Dannii, The Veronicas are currently the number one favourites to be selected to represent the nation in Eurovision 2017.

With a career spanning over a decade, twin sisters Jessica and Lisa Origliasso have made a name for themselves as The Veronicas both nationally and internationally, having headlined a number of tours over the years as well as releasing a total of 3 studio albums to date, each charting in countries spanning the globe!

Earlier this year, it was announced that the sister-duo would temporarily replace The Madden Brothers as the judges of The Voice Australia, creating a positive response from the public and going on to be offered a permanent place on the panel.

Although The Veronicas are the most prominent names to appear to date, other rumoured acts include artists such as Justice Crew, Darren Hayes, Dan Sultan and Empire of the Sun.

Currently, SBS has not revealed their selection plans for the 2017 Eurovision Song Contest with more details expected in the coming weeks. It is likely the broadcaster will opt for an internal selection as with the past 2 years.
