Following the Estonian submissions record that was broken this year, the neighbours from Latvia show a similar trend, with a total of 168 songs submitted by 89 different artists to Supernova 2017, the Latvian national selection for the Eurovision Song Contest.

Supernova was launched in 2015, replacing the long-running Eurodziesma. Since its launch, Latvia has managed to qualify to the final in both times (2015 and 2016) following a row of non-qualifications (2009-2014) and last places in the semifinals. A total of 98 songs were submitted for the first edition in 2015, while 120 songs were submitted for 2016.
