Bulgaria: BNT confirms preliminary participation in Eurovision 2017

BNT, the Bulgarian national broadcaster has confirmed to ESCToday Bulgaria’s preliminary participation at the forthcoming 2017 Eurovision Song Contest in Ukraine.

The Bulgarian broadcaster has applied to participate at the 2017 Eurovision Song Contest and is currently awaiting the approval of participation from its board of directors. BNT is yet to reveal the mechanism it will use to select its entry and act for Kyiv

In 2016 Bulgaria returned to the competition after a 2 year absence with a big bang! The country opted for an internal selection in order to select its act and entry for Stockholm.

Poli Genova represented Bulgaria at the ESC for the second time with her entry If love was a crime, thus giving Bulgaria its best result in the competition, after achieving an honorable 4th place in the Grand Final.

With Bulgaria in the house, 35 countries have so far confirmed their intention to participate at the 2017 Eurovision Song Contest.

The final and confirmed list of the ESC 2017 participating countries is expected to be released by the EBU by the end of the year.

The period for countries to apply for participation at the 2017 Eurovision Song Contest concluded on 15 September. Hereafter applicant countries have a grace period until 10 October to decide if they are to stay or not in the competition without facing a financial penalty.

The 2017 Eurovision Song Contest is scheduled to be held at the IEC in Kyiv on 9, 11 and 13 May.
