Croatia: HRT confirms participation in Eurovision 2017

HRT, the Croatian national broadcaster has confirmed to ESCT0day that Croatia will participate at the forthcoming 2017 Eurovision Song Contest in Ukraine.

Croatia is yet to determine the mechanism it will use to select its Eurovision entry and act for Kyiv. More details will be released in due course.

In 2016 Croatia returned to the competition after a 2 year absence from the contest. HRT opted for an internal selection in order to select its Eurovision entry and act for Stockholm. Nina Kraljic was given the honour of flying the Croatian flag at the 2017 ESC with her entry Lighthouse.

Croatia debuted at the Eurovision Song Contest in 1994 with Put and is yet to win the competition. The country achieved its best results in 1997 with Danijela Martinovic and in 1999 with Doris Dragovic.

With Croatia in the house, 27 countries have so far confirmed their intention to participate at the 2017 Eurovision Song Contest.

The period for countries to apply for participation at the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest concluded on 15 September. Hereafter applicant countries have a grace period until 10 October to decide if they are to stay or not in the competition without facing a financial penalty.

The final and confirmed list of the ESC 2017 participating countries is expected to be released by the EBU by late December/early January.

The 2017 Eurovision Song Contest is scheduled to be held on 9, 11 and 13 May at the IEC in Kyiv, Ukraine.
