The 2016 Ukrainian Eurovision winner Jamala has been named Honourable Citizen of Kyiv by the City of Kyiv and awarded an apartment in the Ukrainian capital for her ESC victory.
Jamala won the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest in Stockholm earlier this year with her entry 1944 and gave her homeland Ukraine its 2nd ESC victory, thus bringing the competition on home soil for the 2nd time. Ukraine is all set to host next year’s Eurovision edition.
The 2016 Eurovision winner was received by the Mayor of Kyiv Mr. Vitali Klitchko at the Kyiv City Hall, who named her as an honorable citizen of Kyiv for her recent achievement at the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest. Mr. Klitchko also awarded Jamala with a 2 bed-room apartment in the Ukrainian capital as a gesture of gratitude for her hard work and Eurovision victory.
Mr. Vitali Klitchko told Jamala:
Your victory in the Eurovision Song Contest is very important and symbolic, especially in such a difficult period for our country. You drew attention on Ukraine, you gave Ukraine a victory, therefore deserve to get a house in the capital.
Jamala was happy and honoured to have receive this recogntion and award.
