Week 21: A review of the last seven days

Counting from the first Bulgarian heat on 1st October, this was already the 21st week in the national final season for the 2009 Eurovision Song Contest. Over the week, a series of live shows were held and we now know another six entries that will compete in Moscow.

Belgium

On Tuesday, the name of the 'rock 'n' roll legend' to represent Belgium in the 2009 Eurovision Song Contest was announced: Patrick Ouchène will go to Moscow with the song CopyCat. The presentation of the Elvis Presley tribute song will take place at Mirano Continental in Saint-Josse-ten-Noode, Brussels on 10th March, shortly before the EBU deadline.

Georgia

On Wednesday, Georgia chose its representatives for the 2009 Eurovision Song Contest. From the ten competing acts, it was decided that Stephane & 3G will go to Moscow with their song We don't wanna put in. The title of the song led to some confusion because political messages are not allowed on the Eurovision satge. However, the group denies such a message and, of course, the EBU will not comment on the song before it has been officially submitted.

Greece

Teh Greek national final was held on Wednesday. Sakis Rouvas performed all three songs and in the end, the televoters, the jury an the esctoday.com poll voters, who took part in the voting process, agreed to send the song This is our night to Moscow. The song is written by Dimitris Kontopoulos, Craig Porteils andCameron Giles-Webband it will be the third up-tempo song from Greece in a row.

FYR Macedonia

The FYR Macedonian selection was held on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. In the two semi finals, 16 of the 32 acts qualified for the national final on Saturday. In the end, rock band Next Time won the selection with their song Nešto što ke os. They won the televote but finished only fourth in the jury vote, while the jury favourites Kaliopi & Naum only finished fifth in the televoting.

Slovakia

Slovakia continued its searched for the 2009 Eurovision Song Contest on Friday with the second semi final being held. Ten acts competed and two were chosen by televoting to move forward to the natioanl final. Another song was chosen by the jury and yet again, it was the one that finished last in the televoting. The third semi final, which was supposed to be held tonight, was postponed to Monday due to a tragic accident.

Ireland

The Irish national final was held on Friday. Six acts competed in the selection and in the end, Sinead lvey & Black Daisy were chosen to represent the country in the 2009 Eurovision Song Contest having got 78 out of 80 possible points. Their song is called Et cetera and it is one of Ireland's first attempts in the rock genre.

Norway

The Norwegian national final was held on Saturday. The eight acts that had qualified competed and in the end, Alexander Rybak won the selection by a landslide with his song Fairytale. The song is already a #1 hit in Norway.

Bulgaria

At the end of one of the most lengthy selections for the 2009 Eurovision Song Contest, Bulgaria held its national final on Saturday. Twelve acts competed and it was decided that Krassimir Avramov will go to Moscow with the song Illusion. The country is taking part in the competition for the fifth time but has only made it to the final once so far.

Sweden

The third semi final was held in Sweden. Again, two songs were chosen to move forward to the national final while another two will enter the second chance round. The international jury also had its say and chose another song to geta chance for the 11th spot in the national final.

Spain

The second semi final of the Spanisch selection was held on Saturday night. Ten songs were presented and three songs were chosen for the national final. A fourth song is in the running for the second chance wildcard.
