Slovakia: Another three acts chosen for the final

Tonight, the second semi final of the Slovakian selection for the 2009 Eurovision Song Contest was held. Ten songs were presented and three of them were chosen to move forward to the national final on 8th March. Two songs were chosen by televoting and a third one by the jury.

The following songs qualified through the televoting:

  • Tomáš BezdedaKazdý z nás
  • Mária CírováBúrka

The following song was the jury choice:

  • MukatadoJa sa mám

Mária Círová finished second in the esctoday.com poll with strong 30.6% and made it to the final despite having been drawn at the unlucky #2 in the running order. However, Tomáš Bezdeda won the televote having only finished equal sixth in the poll with 2.0%. Mukatado won the jury and had only reached 0% in the poll and hence finished last.

Slovakia will return to the Eurovision Song Contest after eleven years. The last participation to date came in 1998, when Katarina Hasprová finished 21st with her entry Modlitba getting eight points in total and all of them from Croatia. In 2009, the country will take part in the second semi final on 14th May.
