Week 19: A review of the last seven days

Counting from the first Bulgarian heat on 1st October, this was already the 19th week in the national final season for the 2009 Eurovision Song Contest. Starting on Wednesday and ending on Saturday, a total of six voting shows were held in six diffrent countries and another four Eurovision Song Contest entries for 2009 are now known.

Hungary

On Monday, it was revealed by the Hungarian broadcaster that Mark Zentai would represent the country at the 2009 Eurovision Song Contest. However, he quickly withdrew his entry when accusations of plagiarism came up. On Tuesday, it was then revealed that Kátya Tompos will go to Moscow with the songMagános csónak written by Géza Pálvölgyi and Gábor Duba.

Andorra

After three presentation shows, the Andorran national final for Moscow was held on Wednesday. The three songs that were in the running were performed again and the jury and the televoters agreed on sending Susanna Georgi to the Eurovision Song Contest with her entry La teva decisió, which was composed by the singer herself and Lene Dissing, Rune Braager, Marcus Winther-John andPernilla Georgi while the lyrics were written by Josep Roca Vila.

Azerbaijan

On Thursday, it was announced that AySel, who will represent Azerbaijan in 2009, will perform the song Always in Moscow. It is written by successful composer Arash Labaf.

Norway

The third and last semi final of MGP was held on Saturday. From the seven contestants, it was decided that Ovi and Alexander Rybak will move forward to the national final held in two weeks. Another two acts have qualified for the 'last chance' round. Meanwhile, it had been announced that eight instead of six acts will get another chance in 'Siste sjansen'.

Sweden

Melodifestivalen 2009 kicked off on Saturday.Eight songs were presented in the first semi final and once the top four were selected, it was decided that Alcazar and Emilia will directly move forward to the national final while the Scotts and Caroline af Ugglas enter the second chance round.

Lithuania

The second and last semi final was held in Lithuania on Saturday.Ten acts performed their songs and televoting chose the lastten entrants for the national final to be held next week.

Cyprus

TheCypriot national final for 2009 was held on Saturday. Ten acts competed andat the end of voting, it was decided that Christina Metaxas gets the ticket to Moscow with herballad Firefly. The song is written by her brother Nikolas Metaxas, a familiar name in the Cypriot selection.

Malta

During one of the longest national finals ever, it was decided that out of the 20 contestants Chiara will represent Malta for the third time in Moscow. She will perform the ballad What if we composed by Marc Paelinck (Belgium 2002, 2004) to the lyrics by Gregory Bilsen. Following Sakis Rouvas, she is the second returning artist in the competition.
