Tonight, the Dutch national final for the 2009 Eurovision Song Contest was held. The Toppers performed all six entries and jury and televoting decided to send the song Shine originally stated as written by Bas van den Heuvel and Ger van de Westelaken to Moscow. But in the press conference Gordon stated that Ger van de Westlaken does not really exist and the song was writen by him together with Bas van den Heuvel, a fact he concealed even from the other two members of the trio.

The jury (1/3) andthe televoting (2/3) disagreed. Angel of the night had got all top marks from the jury members but only finished second in the televote, where the song Shine got more than 40% of the votes.

In 2008, the Netherlands were represented by Hind, who finished 13th in the first semi final and hence did not make it to the final with Your heart belongs to me. In 2009, the country will take part in the second semi final on 14th May.
