Melody and the Vivancos are currently leading in the Eurovision 2009, El Retorno online voting with 66,103 votes. The Andalusian child artiste has toppled Soraya into 2nd place. Soraya is the hot favourite to represent Spain at the forthcoming Eurovision Song Contest enjoying fame, name and recognition on home soil. She is close 2nd with 65,523 votes followed by Santa Fe who have climbed up very fast in the recent days.

TVE the Spanish national broadcaster has organised an open selection in order to choose their 2009 Eurovision entry. Artists and composers were invited to upload their entries on the special Myspace TVE page. More than 1000 songs were entered , from which only 455 were eligible to compete.TVE officially opened the online voting for the public on the 19th of December 2008, with its deadline on the 19th of January.

455 entries are competing in 10 different categories/genres; RnB, Romantic Song, Pop Rock, Metal, Latin Song, Indie, Electronic, Hip- Hop/Rap, Spanish Song/Flamenco, Others. The top 5 entries from each of the categories will qualify for the Spanish Eurovision 2009 semi finals scheduled to be held at theend January and February. A total of 50 songs will compete in the semi finals, from where the 10 best songs will be chosen to go to the Grand Final.

A special jury along with the public televote will evaluate the competing candidates and shorten the number from 50 to 10 during the televised semi finals. The special expert jury will consist of 5 members, 4 of which will be related professionally or musically to the world of show business and music. The 5th member will be chosen via online voting on the official Spanish Eurovision 2009 web page.

This year's Spanish Eurovision selection promises to be a strong competion with a tight 2 horse race between Soraya and Melody who are currently battling for the 1st place.
