110 songs were submitted to ETV, over the last few weeks they have been whittled down to just 10, these 10 finalists will take part in Eesti Laul 2009, which will be held on the 7th of March 2009 and will fight for the title of representative of Estonia in the Eurovision Song Contest in Moscow in May.
The ten finalists were announced today by ETV. These finalists are:
- Laura – Destiny (Sven Lõhmus)
- Rolf Junior – Freedom (Rolf Roosalu, Maian-Anna Kärmas)
- Chalice – Nelikümmend (Jarek Kasar)
- Ithaka-Maria – One Last Dance (Pearu Paulus, Ilmar Laisaar, Alar Kotkas, Marya Roxx)
- Sandra Nurmsalu – Rändajad (Sven Lõhmus)
- Traffic – See päev (Stig Rästa, Fred Krieger)
- Janne Saar – Too Good For You (Vahur Valgmaa, Janne Saar)
- StereoChemistry – Öösiti kõndides (Holger Tilk)
- Köök – Üürnik (Jaan Pehk, (Madis Aesma)
- Lowry – You ain´t what I need (Lauri Pihlap)
Laura participated in the Estonian selection twice before, in 2006 (Moonwalk) where she ended 2nd and in 2007 (Sunflowers) when she ended 3rd.
Rolf Junior participated in Eurolaul 2008 and ended 4th with one on one.
Maria who will perform One last dance was part of Slobodan River who previously participated in Eurolaul. The song was written by the same people as previous estonian entries; Once in a lifetime, Runaway and Through My Window.
Lawry was part of Soul Militia who participated in Eurolaul 2007 with My Place which ended 5th and also won the Eurovision Song Contest in 2001 as part of 2XL who performed on stage with Tanel and Dave and gained Estonia's first and latest Eurovision Song Contest winner, Everybody.
Estonia will be hoping to pass to the final for the first time since the Semi-Finals were introduced in 2004, after failing to reach the final in 2008 with Leto Svet by Kreisiraadio, which ended 18th in Semi Final 2.
