Maria Serifovic, the 2007 Eurovision Song Contest winner, will perform as part of the Serbian celebrations to see in the new year in Serbia capital, Belgrade, the host city of the 2008 competition. The artist also won the 2007 esctoday.com song of the year award.

A special music programme is being planned to mark the dawn of a new year, and the singer who brought the 2008 Eurovision Song Contest to Belgrade with Serbia's first victory in the competition will headline the event alongside Goran Bregovic. The concert will take place in front of the Serbian Parliament Building, starting at 21:00 local time.

The event aims to show that Serbia is developing into a leading European nation, hoping to be granted EU candidate status in the near future. EU High Representatice Javier Solana recently stated that he expects the country to be granted the status soon.

Serbia hosted the 2008 Eurovision Song Contest and organisers, led by national broadcaster, RTS, was widely congratulated on fantastic organisation and producing a world class event, both as a television show and the behind the scenes planning and implementation.

Today, the mayor of Belgrade is attending a ceremony in Moscow where the keys to the Eurovision Song Contest will be passed to the Mayor of Moscow.
