Marie Serneholt in Eurovision race

Swedish national broadcaster, SVT, has revealed that Marie Serneholt will be the third Melodifestivalen 2009 wildcard. She enters the competition for the first time after a successful music career that started with the band A*Teens in the late 1990s. She will perform the song Disconnect me in her bid to take the Swedish ticket to the Eurovision Song Contest. The song is written by Peter Boström and Tony Nilsson.

With A*Teens, Marie had a global number one hit with a cover of Eurovision Song Contest winning band ABBA's Mamma mia track. They achieved a huge success and cracked America, defeating Christina Aguilera and Blink-182 to win the Viva Music Award for Best International Newcomer in 2000. They toured the US with Britney Spears, who at the time was working with future Cyprus Eurovision representative, Annette Atari in her backing vocal group.

Marie bacame a recognisable face in the 1990s with the global success of A*Teens. After a brief spell modelling as the face of Maybelline cosmetics in Scandinavia, she returned to the studio and began a successful solo career. Her first single, That's the way my heart goes became a chart topper and achieved gold status in Sweden, it was a hit around Europe. Her first album, Enjoy the ride reached the top ten. She has released three singles, reaching the charts around Europe and is set to release her second solo album in 2009.
