Last October, popular country singer Jill Johnson, who represented Sweden at the 1998 Eurovision Song Contest in Birmingham with Kärleken är, a ballad inspired by the death of Diana, Princess of Wales, released a new album entitled Baby blue paper.
The title of the albumcomesfromsomefan mail Jill received years ago, written on baby blue paper by an eleven year old girl with a touching story. Together with well known song writers like Liz Rose, Lori McKenna, Rachel Thibodeau and Rebecca Lynn Howard, Jill has co-writen all the songs on her new album. The album was brought to life during Jill’s trips to Nashville, the home of country music and was produced by famous Nashville producers Scott Baggett and Tom Harding.
Baby blue paper was released on October 22nd in Sweden and has already managed to gain lots of success, just like Jill's previous recordings.
The first single Top of the world, released two months ago, went straight to the top of all radio charts.Jill Johnson can rightfully bedescribed as one of Sweden’s most established artists, having released an impressive record of successful albums and being known for her strong yet emotional voice, as well as her flawless and touching live performances.
Having decided to become a singer at a very early age, Jill was engaged into lots of musical activities during growing up.However, her big breakthrough finally emerged in 1998 when she won Melodifestivalen and therefore went on to represent her country at the Eurovision Song Contest in Birmingham with the ballad Kärleken är (Love is), composed by Håkan Almqvist and Bobby Ljunggren and penned by Ingela 'Pling' Forsman. The song has a deep and special meaning to it as it was inspired by the unexpected death of Diana, Princess of Wales. In the Eurovision Song Contest, Jill managed to reach 10th place with a total of 53 points.
Jill tried to win Melodifestivalen for a second time in 2003 with the hit Crazy in love, which brought her 4th place in the final and remained # 1 in the Swedish Top Charts (Svensktoppen) for twelve consecutive weeks. In the same year, Jill also released Discography, a best of- album which sold Gold in Sweden and brought Jill a Grammy. The two follow- up albums Roots and wings, Being who you are and The woman I've become were equally successful in the charts. In 2005, Jill played the role of the host of Melodifestivalen and also released a Christmas album entitled The Christmas in you which went gold within a week, similar to its’ predecessors. This Christmas album was re- released on November 19th, 2008 with a re- vamped booklet and two brand- new tracks.In 2007, Jill released Music Row, named after the centre of country music industry in Nashville. The album contains a lot of Jill’s own favourite songs, including three duets and again sold gold in less than a week and platinum shortly after.
