The first details of the 2009 Eurovision Song Contest opening have been revealed: The ceremony will take place in the idyllic and picturesque setting in front of the Moscow State University, in the Vorobyovy Hills of the city on the shores of the river Moskva. The landmark building, standing at 236 metres tall and completed within 5 months, will match the glamour and excitement of the opening ceremony.

The Eurovision Song Contest opening ceremony is one of the highlights of the year for artists, journalists and fans. Each year, the host city organisers go out of their way to ensure a fantastic welcome reception for those working or performing at the event.

In recent years, entry to the ceremony in Istanbul was by river boat, in Kyiv the ceremony was held outdoors in the gardens of the royal palace.
