Francine Jordi, the singer who represented her native country Switzerland in the Eurovision Song Contest 2002, managed to reach # 1 of the Swiss single charts- even before Pink- with Das Feyr vo dr Sehnsucht, a tradional duet in Swiss dialect with the yodel group Jodlerclub Wiesenberg.
This song is very special to Francine as it is a cover of her very first single, Das Feuer der Sehnsucht (The fire of yearning), the song which marked the beginning of her musical career back in 1998. The lyrics of the dialect version are a word-for- word translation of the German version.
However, this was not Francine’s first song in Swiss dialect. Some years ago, she already collaborated with Swiss artist Florian Ast. Together, they released the most successful Swiss single ever: Träne (Teardrop), an emotional song which touched many people. Those two songs are Francine’s biggest commercial successes and definitely stand out from herusual repertoireas her typical style is German folksy Schlager, a musical genre with very little credibility and prestige (all television shows related to that field use full playback).
Francine Jordi represented her home country Switzerland in the Eurovision Song Contest 2002 in Tallin, Estonia with Dans le jardin de mon âme, a song she wrote all by herself. Besides the French version, she also recorded a German (Im Garten meiner Seele) and an English (In the garden of my soul) version of her Euro- song. However, despite a convincing live performance, Francine only reached 22nd place out of 24 participants, receiving 15 points in total (the highest amount coming from Austria which awarded her with 5 points).
