Romania will shortly be deciding its representative for the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest in Stockholm, and viewers of national selection competition Selecția Națională are in for even more of a surprise, including a very special performance from a recent Eurovision participant…

The Selecția Națională shows on Friday 4 March (semi-final) and Sunday 6 March (Grand Final) will see special performances from hosts Cornel Ilie, Ioana Voicu and Jo and jury members Zoli Toth (as part of the Zoli TOTH Project), Cezar Ouatu (Romania 2013), Randi, Uddi and Horia Moculescu. The performances will be supervised by musical director (and fellow jury member) Alexandra Cepraga.

Cezar Ouatu, who dazzled at Eurovision 2013 with his unforgettable entry It’s my life, will perform Rise like a phoenix, Conchita Wurst’s Eurovision-winning entry of 2014, at the Grand Final on Sunday 6 March.

The Zoli TOTH Project will take to the stage at the Grand Final on Sunday 6 March with Cocoon. Described as an exciting and energetic concept, incorporating special effects, choreography and brand new music played on non-traditional instruments (including a new instrument yet to be revealed to the public), this is a performance not to be missed. Sunday’s Grand Final will also see the legendary musician Horia Moculescu team with young Romanian stars Randi and Uddi to take on a new version of the song The story of my life.

Selecția Națională hosts Ioana Voicu, Jo and Cornel Ilie (a member of the pop/rock band Vunk) will also perform.

Selecția Națională 2016 will take place at the Sala Polivalentă in Baia Mare Municipality. Listen to all twelve competing songs here. As reported on 17 February, Hayley Evetts withdrew from the competition following a serious knee injury and was replaced by Gaşca de acasă with their entry Tu eşti povestea .
