The man who sang for Italy in the Eurovision Song Contest 2013 has been interview by shangay.com during the promotion of the artist’s album in Spanish Liberando palabras.

Marco Mengoni represented his country in Eurovision when the event was not very well known in Italy. As he said to shangay.com, his 7th position in Malmö did not change that, but it seems that little by little it helped give a turn to the situation, with the contribution of Nina Zilli’s and Il Volo’s results, of course.

He also gave his opinion about Eurovision, which, according to Mengoni, is a circus. But it is very funny. I didn’t know where I was going because to me, being Italian, Eurovision did not exist. Still, he does not regret the experience, as it took him to where he stands know. When Sony Spain saw my performance of L’essenziale they offered me to produce an album in Spanish, he further explained.

When asked about same-sex marriage, which in Italy is being debated at the moment, Marco Mengoni said that in Spain it was approved 10 years ago, but in Italy it is taking forever. We´re in 2016 and some things seem unbelievable in Italy.

Since the Italian Prime Minister has expressed his desire of having the matter resolved in 2016, Mengoni is a bit skeptical about the promise. I’ve heard too many speeches. I won’t believe it until I see it. We must make it real as soon as possible.

Marco Mengoni participated for Italy on the Eurovision Song Contest 2013 with the song L’essenziale.
