Austria has selected! It’s Zoë who will go on to represent her country at the upcoming Eurovision Song Contest in the host city of Stockholm with her entry, Loin d’ici.
This evening, a total of 10 acts competed in the Austrian national final, Wer singt für Österreich? in a bid to represent the nation at the Eurovision Song Contest 2016.
The winner of the national final was decided in 2 parts; round 1 consisted of a 50/50 combined vote from both the public and jury. The top 2 of the first round moved on to round 2 of the final where the winner was decided 100% via televote. Tonight’s interval included a performance from the Eurovision 2014 winner, Conchita Wurst where she performed a new version of her single, That’s what I am.
In round 1, a jury panel consisting of members Conchita Wurst, Madita and Julie Frost along with a combined press vote ranked Elly V (37 points) and Bella Wagner (36 points) as their favourites of the night, but following the combination of the public televote, the public agreed that Elly should qualify to the next round of the final but with Zoë instead of Bella, who went on to finish in third position.
Following round 2 of voting, it was decided by the public that Zoë will go on to represent Austria at the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest with her entry, Loin d’ici.
