Tonight: UPD Netherlands presents its Eurovision entry

Tonight, the song that will represent the Netherlands at the 53rd Eurovision Song Contest will be presented to the (Dutch) audience.

Hind Larrousiwill sing her song for Belgrade for the first time in public in a special edition of the television show Thank God it's Friday, hosted by Claudia de Breij. This pre-recorded show will be broadcasttonight at 21:40 CET on the primary Dutch channel Nederland 3. If you miss the show you can watch a repeat on Nederland1 on Saturday 8th March, 2008 at 14:45 CET.

Hind will present her song for Belgrade: Your Heart Belongs To Me. She wrote the song together with Tjeerd van Zanenand Bas van den Heuvel five years ago. The singer was internally selected to represent the Netherlands at the upcoming Eurovision Song Contest.

Hindshot to fame by finishing third in the first seasonof Idols the Dutch version of thePop Idol competition in 2003and has become quite popular in The Netherlands after that. Hind is Morroccan in origin and is known to be a very strong vocalist.

The singer describes her song as a "cool pop song with oriental influences", and believes that the song it probably "more cool than people expect from me." Even though Hind received several compositions after her open invitation to submit songs, she chose an existing composition, co-written by herself. Writer Tjeerd van Zanen also wrote previous Dutch Eurovision Song Contest entries One Good Reason (1999) and One More Night(2003). Bas van den Heuvel produced numerous songs for Glennis Grace, who represented the Netherlands at the 2005 Eurovision Song Contest. Her song, My Impossible Dream, was also produced by Van den Heuvel.

In an interview with the Dutch newspaper Algemeen Dagblad, Hind said that she wants to "break the negativity around the Eurovision Song Contest in the Netherlands." However, when the first saw the Irish contestant Dustin the Turkey, she lost faith for a moment: "Horrible, I have to compete with a singing turkey (…) Imagine people vote for it, just because they think it's funny," she said.

The Netherlands will take part in the first Semi-Final of the 2008 Eurovision Song Contest on the 20th of May.
