Croatia: HRT ‘s decision on Eurovision 2016 imminent

HRT, the Croatian national broadcaster has confirmed to ESCToday that it is yet to make final decision regarding its participation at the forthcoming 2016 Eurovision Song Contest. The Croatian broadcaster is neither declining or confirming its participation in Stockholm at the moment, whilst a final deliberation is immiment and expected in due course.

It is yet unclear what the Croatian broadcaster will decide, taking into account that the country withdrew from the contest back in 2014 and has been absent from the event for 2 years in a row.

The Croatian broadcaster is expected to make a final decision regarding its participation at the forthcoming 2016 Eurovision Song Contest. If Croatia were to stay out of the competition it would be the 3rd time in a row the country would be absent from the competition.

The deadline for countries to submit their respective applications in order to participate at the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest concluded on Tuesday 15 September, herefater all applicant countries had a grace period until 10 October to decide if they are to stay in the competition or not without facing a financial penalty.

The last time we saw Croatia on the Eurovision stage was in 2013 when the country opted for an internal selection and selected Klapa s mora to fly the Croatian flag in Malmo. Despite a great performance the Croatian group failed to qualify to the grand final.

Croatia debuted at the Eurovision Song Contest in 1993 and is yet to win the event. The country achieved its best placing in the competition in 1996 and 1999 when it placed 4th.

 

The 2016 Eurovision Song Contest is scheduled to be held on 10, 12 and 14 May at the Globe Arena in Stockholm, Sweden.
