Crystina Maez enters in the Spanish preselection for the second time in an attempt to represent her home country in the Eurovision Song Contest. Crystina, together with the composer and lyricists of her song spoke to esctoday.com about their song in the Spanish race to Belgrade.

Crystina, tell us a few more things about yourself. What is your relationship with the Eurovision Song Contest?

I’m a Spanish singer, I was born in the beautiful island called Gran Canaria and started my career eight years ago when I set up a pop group, since then I’ve performed on many stages.
For me Eurovision is the most important European festival, it’s always very interesting to listen to all the proposals and to see all the idiosyncrasies represented in their performances.
A true relationship with the Eurovision Song Contest started last year when I took part in the Spanish preselection, I was eager to represent Spain in such an important festival and I hope I can achieve my goal this year.

What would it mean to you to represent Spain in the Eurovision Song Contest?

It would mean a lot indeed. I would feel extremely proud if my country chooses me to represent it in this important contest! And as an artist I should say that reachingthe audience’s ears is very important for a musician and I think Eurovision is the best way to do it in Europe.

What do you think of the TVE idea to use MySpace this year to select the Spanish entry?

I love this innovative and unrestricted method because it doesn’t matter which genre you play, it allows all the Spanish artists to participate.

If you are given the chance to present yourself in the final, what should we expect to see on stage ?

I think this is a made-to-measure song, it’s perfect for Eurovision. Powerful music and optimist lyrics make it special. I’ll work to do my best! You can expect a great show!!!

Thanks to Johnny Logan and Hold me now I fell in love with the Eurovision Song Contest, a love that's been going strong ever since with undiminished passion. My first memories date back to 1977 and the lyrics of Rock bottom, Dschinghis Khan and A ba ni bi are still engraved in my brain.

I joined esctoday.com in 2006 as a junior editor after being invited by Barry Viniker, I soon became Senior Editor and during the 2007 contest in Helsinki I was appointed Head of Communications. Today I hold the post of Head of Human Resources and I am proud to be working with the best editorial team in the world.
