Kátia Aveiro, the elder sister of footballer Cristiano Ronaldo, has announced she would like to represent Portugal in the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest.
The Real Madrid striker has achieved global superstardom through his talents on the football pitch, and earlier this week his sister tweeted her latest musical intentions;
Eurofans, I’d love for you to support me in representing Portugal in Eurovision, it would be a dream!
Aveiro, whose real name is Liliana Cátia dos Santos Aveiro, is currently working on new music with famous producer RedOne, according to a Spanish newspaper. RedOne has worked with many famous acts, including Lady GaGa, Enrique Iglesias and Shakira, but also acts many Eurovision fans will be familiar with, such as Alexey Vorobyov, Darin, Ola, Love Generation, Jade Ewen and Molly Sandén.
Portugal haven’t qualified for the final of the Eurovision Song Contest since 2010, and had a break in 2013 due to financial reasons. In 48 appearances on the Eurovision stage , Portugal have never finished higher than sixth place, and have only ever reached the top 10 nine times. They have, however, finished in last place 6 times. The 38-year-old songstress, who has 6 studio albums to her name, hopes to change the nation’s dire record with her uptempo Latino beats.
The Portuguese entrant is usually chosen through the Festival da Canção national selection, but the system is currently being reviewed as it was thought to be hindering Portugal’s chances at the contest.
