RTSH, the national Albanian broadcaster RTSH has called for composers and singers wishing to compete at the 54th edition of the annual Albanian song contest Festivali i Këngës .Thus it seems more likely that RTSH and Albania will compete at the forthcoming 2016 Eurovision Song Contest in Stockholm next May, whilst we await an official confirmation from the broadcaster.
Artists/composers wishing to compete in FiK 54 can do so by submitting their applications to RTSH on 29 and 30 September. Albania will once more select its Eurovision entry and act via FiK if the country is to compete at the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest.
RTSH is expected to reveal more details regarding Festivali i Këngës 54 in due course; the dates of the festival, the hosts, the venue etc.
Artists/composers wishing to compete in the festival are eligible to submit only one entry, whilst lyricsts are eligible to enter 2 songs.
In 2015 Albania selected its Eurovision act via its annual song festival Festivali i Kenges. Elhaida Dani won the 2014 Festivali i Kenges and was awarded the golden ticket to represent Albania at the 2015 Eurovision Song Contest in Vienna. She achieved a 17th placing at the grand final with her entry I’m alive.
Albania debuted at the Eurovision Song Contest in 2004 with Anjeza Shahini and is yet to win the event. The country achieved its best result in the competition in 2012 with Rona Nishliu‘s Suus, placing 5th.
The 2016 Eurovision Song Contest is scheduled to be held on 10, 12 and 14 May at the Globe Arena in Stockholm.
