Carola, the three time Melodifestivalen winner was one of the first people to congratulate 15 year old Amy Diamond after she became one of the first finalists for the 2008 competition. she sent a message of congratulations to Amy minutes after her success in Saturday night's semi final in Gothemburg, Sweden.
Carola became the youngest winner of the competition in 1983 with her entry Framling (Stranger) and that record stands until today. The song went on to finish 3rd at the Eurovision Song Contest in Germany and it launched Carola as one of Sweden's biggest stars. The album released that year is still unsurpassed in record sales in Sweden.
The record will be broken this year if Amy Diamond wins Melodifestivalen this year. Amy is not 16 until April, meaning that she will reach the minimum age to participate at the Eurovision Song Contest a month before the show. She will have to beat Carola and her duet partner Andreas Johnson, the hot favourites to win this weekend's semi final in Vasteras.
Carola sent congratulations and a message of support to Amy Diamond right after the results were announced in Gothenburg. Amy was thrilled to receive the message and has the utmost respect for a woman that will know better than most how Amy will be feeling to reach the final at such a young age. SVT had to get special permission for her to perform in the show at 20:00 local time because of Swedish laws protecting children from working.
