Australia: Who paid for the Australian 2015 participation?

Following Australia’s guest participation at the 2015 Eurovision Song Contest, it has been revealed by the SBS managing director Mr Michael Ebeid that Sony Australia paid for all of the costs involved with Australia’s participation this year.

Costs involved in Australia’s 2015 participation include Guy Sebastian’s stage performance at the competition, as well as costs which secured Australia’s participation in the Grand Final show.

Talking about Australia’s 2015 participation at the Eurovision Song Contest in the host city of Vienna, Michael Ebeid revealed that Guy Sebastian’s appearance at the competition had no impact on the taxpayer at all with costs being covered by Sony Australia, also announcing that Australia’s participation lifted the viewing audience in Australia for the contest by a total of 15%.

Continuing, Michael Ebeid went on to add that Eurovision provided a platform to meet with executives from a host of European broadcaster, revealing that the feedback following Australia’s guest appearance had been overwhelmingly positive.

Guy Sebastian was internally selected to represent Australia in their first ever participation at the Eurovision Song Contest by the Australian national broadcaster, SBS. With his entry Tonight again, Guy received a total of 196 points ending in 5th position.
