Tonight at 23.40 CET, Italian television RAI2 will broadcast a special show “La storia siamo noi” dedicated to Domenico Modugno, his career and his songs.

On January 31st 1958 Domenico Modugno successfully presented Nel blu dipinto di blu in the Sanremo Festival. The song, known worldwide as Volare, became the Italian Eurovision entry for that year and secured a third place finish.

Volare is today recognised as being one of the most popular songs of the contest; having achieved 94 recorded versions in various languages, global chart success, including a number one hit in the United States of America and a Grammy Award.

Domenico Modugno (1928-1994) participated in the Eurovision Song Contest three times (in ’58, ’59 and 66). He co-wrote Volare with Franco Migliacci. In the 50th anniversary show of the Eurovision Song Contest, held in 2005; Volare was voted the second favourite entry in the history of the contest after Abba's Waterloo.
