Austria: Placido Domingo- Conchita performance cancelled

The Vienna State Opera has announced today that Placido Domingo will not perform at the special Pop Meets Opera concert on 17 May due to health reasons, hence he will not duet with Conchita Wurst during the show as it had been initially announced last month.

Placido Domingo has decided to cancel his performance at the concert due to health reasons, Fox News Latino reports. Domingo will be replaced by Peruvian tenor Juan Diego Florez at the concert. Pop meets Opera, is one of the many side events/concerts scheduled to be held in Vienna in the lead up to the 2015 Eurovision Song Contest.

A grand line up of several Eurovision 2015 representatives have been invited to perform at the concert on 17 May. The show will be presented by Barbara Reit. You can purchase tickets for the show here.

Pop Meets Opera!

As Vienna is getting geared up and ready to host the 2015 Eurovision Song Contest next May, the city’s State Opera will also be joining in the Eurovision celebrations and will host a special matinee show Pop Meets Opera on Saturday 17 May featuring  Juan Diego Flores and Conchita Wurst, thus Building Bridges between diferrent musical genres and cultures. The show will be held in Vienna’s epic Opera House at 12:00 CET and will be streamed live worldwide. The show will be televised on ORF 3 at 20:15 CET on the same night.

Juan Diego Flores and Conchita Wurst will be joined by Vienna’s Philarmonic Orchestra, Vienna State Opera’s Orchestra and  musicians ensemble, and various 2015 Eurovision participating acts.

Eurovision fans and visitors will also be able to view the show for free outside the Opera as the it will be projected on the walls of the square outside the Opera House.

The 2015 Eurovision  Song Contest is scheduled to be held in Vienna on 19, 21 and 23 May at the Wiener Stadthalle.
