Il Volo, who will represent Italy at the 60th Eurovision Song Contest in Vienna next month (May 2015), have given an interview to the Italian magazine TV Sorrisi e Canzoni. During an interview which is full of essential information for Il Volo fans, the band assures that they will do everything they can to bring Eurovision back to Italy!
Consisting of Piero Barone, Ignazio Boschetto and Gianluca Ginoble, operatic pop trio Il Volo won the right to represent Italy at Eurovision following their victory at the 65th edition of the famous Sanremo festival with Grande amore, the song they will perform in Vienna. The anthemic and passionate entry can already boast of an official video with over 21 million YouTube views and, at the time of this article, is second favourite with bookmakers across Europe to win Eurovision 2015.
So, what does the band have to say in the interview?
How everything changed after Sanremo…
Our life has changed after Sanremo. Before we had two parallel lives; the somewhat stressful life abroad, always travelling, interviews and all that while in Italy we could have holiday. No one bothered us, no paparazzo after us and we could just lead our normal lives. Now that has changed. But it’s stressful only to a certain limit because it’s what we love to do; concerts and our fans are always a pleasure. But things have changed also in Italy, there are fans waiting for us wherever we go. A bit like in Mexico. It’s great to be known in your own country, this is the reason we went to Sanremo in the first place!
How IS the band preparing for their grande night in Vienna?
To bed early every night. Gym. Eating healthy…. no, not really!
The band will be dressed in finest Italian style, with their clothing by Armani.
Il Volo recently met Woody Allen in New York, where they sang to the legendary film director in a restaurant.

As a “Big Five” country, Italy qualify straight to the Grand Final of the Eurovision Song Contest. Following Conchita Wurst’s triumph in Copenhagen last year, the 2015 Contest takes place at the Wiener Stadthalle in Vienna, Austria on 19, 21, and 23 May. Read our introduction to Il Volo here.
Italy debuted at the Eurovision Song Contest of 1956 (the very first year of the Contest) and have made 40 appearances to date. Italy has twice won Eurovision: in 1966 (Gigliola Cinquetti, Non ho l’età) and 1990 (Toto Cutugno, Insieme: 1992). Italy was last represented by Emma Marrone, who performed La mia città on the Copenhagen 2014 stage.
