esctoday.com has received official confirmation that the United Kingdom will decide on their 2008 Eurovision Song Contest entry on 1st March. The format is in the final stages of agreement, and no further details have been revealed at this time.

The BBC confirmed to esctoday.com that there will be a national final for the United Kingdom, and it will take place on Saturday 1st March.

TheUnited Kingdom has used the Making Your Mind Up format for the last 5 years, and it is yet to be confirmed whether the title of the show or format will be used once again in 2008. The producer of the United Kingdom final in recent years, and Eurovision Song Contest fan, Dominic Smith will not be involved in the show this year due to commitments to another BBC project. The show is in safe hands with the role of Executive Producer taken up by Phil Parsons and Producer will be fellow Eurovision Song Contest fan, Helen Tumbridge.

Last year, the show made the headlines when presenters Terry Wogan and Fearne Cotton announced different winners of the competition. Fearne correctly announced Scooch as winners, whilst Terry Wogan announced that Cyndi had won the national televote. In true Eurovision fashion, confusion reigned until Terry and Fern announced that it was indeed Scooch that had won the British ticket to Helsinki.
