Tonight 8 brand new songs all written by Danish composers will be presented to the Danish public and broadcast around the world via Internet streaming. 4 of these songs will qualified to the big final on the 2nd of February, while the rest will qualify to a special wildcard round, were the listeners of the radio stations P3 and P3 will decide which two songs will be given a wildcard to final.
As usual DR has kept all this years song secret so nobody except DR and the singers know the songs, but even though bookmarker Nordic bet has already revealed their odds for tonight which you can see here.
01. Anorah – Laying down my cards
Anorah, who was born in Sweden, is quite unknown to the Danish public, besides from being featured on the band Johnny Deluxe’s hit single ‘Drømmer jeg’ (‘Am I dreaming’). Her song is written by Jonas Schrøder og Lucas Sieber who also wrote the hit ’No promises’ for British X-Factor winner Shayne Ward which placed on top of the charts in 15 countries around the world. Anorah describes the song as ‘Cool, alive and filled with energy and feelings’.
Anorah isn’t one of the clear favourites to qualify with the odds 1.65 from Nordic Bet, the same as Charlie and Anne-Marie & Claus Hassing.
02. Sidse Holte – Vi er der om lidt
The second song to be performed tonight, is the bookmarkers favourite, Sidse Holte, with the odds 1.35. Sidse is also quite unknown to the Danish public, but she has worked as a backing singer the last 10 years for names like Franka Abrahamsen, Karina Kappel, Davenport & Erik Grip. Sdise is also currently working with her new band Monkey Cup Dress where she plays the guitar and delivers the vocals.
The main reason for Nordicbet to pick Sidse as the favourite must have been because of the composer. ‘Vi er der om lidt’ (‘We’ll be there soon’) is written by Jacob Groth and Christian Juncker, who has had several hits in Denmark under the names ‘Junior’ and ‘Juncker’. Christian Juncker has also written songs for people like Poul Krebs and former ‘Melodifestivalen’ participant Patrick Isakson.
03. Unite – Tree of life
Unite is one of the most famous names in this years national final with hits like ‘Fight it’ and ‘Butterfly’ behind them. The band consists of 4 members from 4 different countries (Denmark, Uganda, Iraq and the Philippines) and describes the song as a pop song with an edge, sung in English, Arabian and Filipino and is said to be different what we have previously heard in DMGP. Unite is Nordicbets second favourite to qualify for the final with the odds 1:45.
04. Amin Jensen – Luciano
Amin Jensen is the most famous participant in tonight’s semi-final. The famous Danish personality is a comedian, tv-host, actor and finally singer-songwriter. Even tough Amin is very famous in Denmark, his main audience must be said to be 45+. The song ‘Luciano’ which is written by Amin himself is an ode to his big hero, opera singer Luciano Pavarotti, who sadly pasted away in September last year. The song will probably be in opera style, since Amin has impressed the audience with his opera voice many times in the past. Amin isn’t a clear qualifier according to Nordicbet who gives him the odds 2.30.
05. Claus & Anne-Marie Hassing – Come on over
Husband and wife Claus & Anne Marie Hassing is yet another unknown name in this year’s national final. They wrote the song ‘Come on over’ themselves and describes the song as a modern, happy pop/disco song. Even tough they are totally unknown to the Danish public, they actually do have a chance of qualifying according to Nordicbet, who gives them the odds 1.65, odds the same as or higher than more well-known artists like Anorah and Amin Jensen.
06. Louise Victoria – Grøn mand gå
Tonight’s 6th song is ‘Grøn mand gå’ (‘Green man walk’) performed by Louise Victoria. Like most of this years national final Louise Victoria is quite unknown to the Danish public, but she did release the single ‘Det du gør’ (‘The things you do’) in 2006 together with the rapper Nemo. The song is written by Anna Stengade and Lasse Kramhøft. Lasse has previously worked with Danish names like Thomas Helmig, Zindy Laursen, Marie Key Band, Alex and Bikstok Røgsystem. Louise Victoria describes the song as a fresh and youthful tune, different from anything we have previously seen in DMGP. Unfortunately for Louise Victoria, Nordicbet don’t believe she will qualify to the final and gives her the lowest odds at 2.90.
07. Camille & Ulrik – Underneath the moon
Another song with low odds is the song ‘Underneath the moon’ performed by Camille-Cathrine Rommedahl and Ulrik Hansen. They have both participated in a lot of musicals around Denmark including ‘Beauty and The Beast’ and ‘Jesus Christ Superstar’, but a quite unknown to the average Dane.
The song is written by Martin Sommer, Lene Dissing, Christian Warburg and Kåre Kabe. Martin Sommer plays the keyboard in Danish singer-songwriter Tina Dico’s band and Lene Dissing wrote several songs for last years DMGP winner DQ’s debut album. Christian Warbug is the man behind some of the Danish boyband C21’s songs while Kåre Kabe produced many of Danish singer Freya’s albums. Camille describes their song as a romantic, moonlight ballad and Ulrik says that it makes you think of hot summer nights on the beach. Unfortunately for the young couple, Nordicbet don’t believe they will qualify to the final and gives them the lowest odds at 2.90, the same as Louise Victoria, but how many times do songs with low odds shine through on the night in Eurovision events?
08. Charlie – Den jeg er
The last song of tonight’s semifinalists is ‘Den jeg er’ (‘Who I am’) performed by Charlie, who’s real name is Carina Juul Jensen. Charlie is totally unknown to the Danish public and hasn’t released anything yet, except a few songs on her MySpace page.
Charlie has written the song herself together with Andres Hemmet who had several huge dance hits in Denmark in the beginning of the millennium under the name DJ Encore. ‘Den jeg er’ isn’t a dance song tough, but uptempo, pop/rock tune with lyrics, which are easy to understand, as Charlie explains. According to Nordicbet Charlie should have a chance of qualifying to the final and gives her the odds 1.65.
